Steven C. Cooper , , , Director & CEO

Steven C. Cooper was appointed CEO of TrueBlue on June 14, 2022. Mr. Cooper has served as a Director of the Company since May 2006 and served as Board Chair from January 2019 to July 2022. Previously, Mr. Cooper served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer from 2006 to 2018, as President between 2005 and 2015, and as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer between 2001 and 2005. He currently serves as a Director and member of the audit committee of the Boise Cascade Company. Mr. Cooper previously served as a board member of the Washington Roundtable, a nonprofit public policy organization representing major private sector employers throughout Washington State, and as a member of the American Cancer Society’s CEOs Against Cancer. He also served as the Chair of the United Way of Pierce County’s fundraising committee between 2014 and 2015. 

Mr. Cooper’s long and successful tenure as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer for the Company during a period of tremendous growth, combined with his effective leadership and coaching skills, financial and accounting expertise, and unique ability to develop consensus, are among the contributions he makes to the Board and the primary reasons why he serves as Director and CEO.

Derrek L. Gafford , , , Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Derrek L. Gafford has served as the Company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 2006, after serving as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 2005. Mr. Gafford is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and joined the Company in 2002. Mr. Gafford is a Director of Heritage Distilling Co. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Gafford served as Chief Financial Officer for Metropolitan Market, a grocery retailer, and held various management positions with Deloitte & Touche LLP and Albertsons, Inc.

Jeff Dirks , , , SVP, Chief Technology & Information Officer

Jeff Dirks, high-tech industry veteran and innovator, was named TrueBlue’s Chief Information and Technology Officer in June 2019 to oversee the company’s digital transformation. Jeff has spent nearly three decades developing cutting-edge technology solutions that help businesses and people. He is leading the expansion of TrueBlue’s AI-powered technologies that are bringing new possibilities to staffing and recruitment process outsourcing, including its popular JobStack and Affinix offerings.

Dirks is a military veteran and a graduate of the University of Washington with a double major in computer science and Germanic language and literature. He is an entrepreneur who spearheaded two successful tech startups before joining TrueBlue in 2018. In his role, Jeff oversees business product software and cloud R&D, analytics and data science, enterprise applications, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure services and cloud platform services (AWS) for TrueBlue’s global technology organization.

Garrett R. Ferencz , , , Executive Vice President, General Counsel

Garrett R. Ferencz was appointed TrueBlue’s Chief Legal Officer on July 1, 2020 and continues to fulfill his role as the company’s Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer. Mr. Ferencz joined TrueBlue in 2007 and served in various legal and compliance leadership roles before becoming Deputy General Counsel and Chief Litigation Officer in 2018.

Mr. Ferencz was formerly employed by Perkins Coie. Prior to that, he worked as a prosecutor and a civil rights and employment attorney. He has litigated many cases before the United States Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various state courts across the country.  

Mr. Ferencz is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Ninth Circuit Bar, United States Supreme Court Bar, and American Bar Association. He was also a member of the Order of the Barristers for outstanding trial advocacy. He graduated from Seattle University School of Law and received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Washington.

Taryn Owen , , , President and Chief Operating Officer, TrueBlue

Taryn Owen was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of TrueBlue in September 2022. In her role, Owen leads all TrueBlue operating segments – PeopleReady, PeopleScout, and PeopleManagement – as well as the company’s technology, marketing and communications, and human resources functions.

In her role, Owen is responsible for furthering the company’s well-established strategies for long-term growth and extending the company’s track record of exceptional execution and engagement. She has an unwavering commitment to serving TrueBlue’s clients and connecting people and work and is passionate about building a vibrant workplace that is inclusive and welcoming for all employees.

Owen joined TrueBlue in 2010 and has served as President of TrueBlue operating segments PeopleReady and PeopleScout. Over her tenure, Owen has led the company through periods of significant growth, was instrumental in its pandemic response, and spearheaded its digital transformation strategies.

Owen has been recognized for her industry leadership with numerous awards, including annual appearances on the Staffing Industry Analysts' (SIA) Staffing 100, the SIA Global Power 150 Women in Staffing, and the HRO Today HR Superstars lists. She has received a Gold Stevie Award for Female Executive of the Year, a Gold American Business Award for Executive of the Year, a Silver Stevie Award for Woman of the Year – Business Services, and a Women World Award for Female Executive of the Year – Business Services.

Known for empowering others to innovate and challenge limits, Owen was named the 2019 Multiplier of the Year. Owen also completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School, where she earned honorary alumni status.

Carl Schweihs , , , President and Chief Operating Officer, PeopleManagement

Carl Schweihs is President and Chief Operating Officer of PeopleManagement. He provides strategic direction for this key division of TrueBlue that specializes in on-site and contingent workforce management for manufacturing, fulfillment and distribution facilities. His leadership of its three distinct staffing segments – Centerline Drivers, SIMOS Insourcing Solutions and Staff Management | SMX – helps change lives and build stronger businesses by connecting great talent with great companies.

Known for his collaborative leadership style, Schweihs previously served as TrueBlue’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Accounts - delivering the full spectrum of TrueBlue’s solutions to produce higher ROI for the world’s largest brands. Prior to this, he helped to drive strong financial and operational performance at TrueBlue, Seaton and Grant Thornton in a variety of financial leadership roles.

Andrea Brogger , , , SVP, Chief People Officer

As senior vice president and Chief People Officer at TrueBlue, Andrea Brogger empowers 5,100 global employees to achieve TrueBlue’s mission of connecting people and work. Andrea and her team are reimagining the role of human resources within the business to enable TrueBlue to continue to assert its position as a leading talent solution provider for the changing world of work. As a member of TrueBlue’s Executive Leadership Team, Andrea advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion, and she is deeply committed to developing a culture where all people can advance and thrive.

Andrea is passionate about creating innovative human resources strategies that anticipate future skill and competency requirements and align with the broader business strategy. As part of her efforts, she champions programs that enable professional growth and development for employees at all levels of the organization. Andrea is dedicated to making TrueBlue a destination for top talent and an exceptional place to work, with industry-leading employee retention and job satisfaction. Andrea has been with TrueBlue since 2011. Prior to her current role, she was the vice president of global talent and culture at TrueBlue. Before joining TrueBlue, Andrea most recently worked for Microsoft. Andrea holds a master’s degree in business administration and an executive master’s degree in human resources management from Cornell University.

Anthony Brew , , , Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Anthony D. Brew joined TrueBlue in January of 2021. As TrueBlue’s first Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, he is creating innovative solutions to strengthen competencies of DE&I across the organization. Mr. Brew has an unyielding commitment to equality for identity-based societies. These strategies will lead to creating spaces for our employees to have a feeling of belonging by integrating them into decision-making processes and the organizations success. He will be formulating strategies to develop TrueBlue into a more diverse and inclusive company through diversity talent and leadership development. These strategies will significantly increase our promotional opportunities for women, various minorities groups, and the LGBTQIA community.

Prior to joining TrueBlue, Brew has spent more than 20 years building operational and DE&I programs through value-creating partnerships in business and cultural sectors. He has internal and external business and technical operations experience, which has assisted in devising and implementing robust strategies to define corporate visions and achieve goals.

Mr. Brew is a graduate of Temple University’s Fox School of Business, where he earned an Executive Master of Business Administration degree. He has also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.
